The Wiccan Wheel of the Year Sabbat of Lammas is celebrated on August 1st. This is the traditional time for spells that focus on riches, prosperity and appreciation for the blessings we have received so far this year.
There will be a full moon on August 2, so you may wish to cleanse and charge your witches’ tools in its waxing light.
At Imbolc, (February 1), we begin to notice the sun coming up and the start of longer days. Here at Lammas, the opposite is true. We are now aware of the waning sunlight. Summer is fading and we prepare to gather the first harvest.
Lammas Altar Set Up
Set your altar with gold and yellow candles and frankincense oil and incense. Suitable flowers are gladiolas, nasturtium, yarrow and sunflowers.
Menu for Lammas
After your spell, prepare a feast of ratatouille, (sautéed eggplant, tomatoes, zucchini, red peppers, onions and herbs), cornbread, a salad of mixed greens and edible nasturtium blossoms and serve with a light red wine, like Chianti. End the feast with walnut-zucchini cake.
